Storytelling Master
I'm KawaiiKiki and I love storytelling!
I enjoy reading, and I love film. Plot and character development are what make a story.
Toongether has allowed me to see my stories and ideas come to life visually, and it’s been a great experience — even therapeutic. The biggest challenge for me has been ensuring that my stories connect and develop the way I envision when building my comics...
Your Creative Voice
Be confident in what you create and share your story. It’s true—not everyone is going to love what you create, but your tribe will find you. I learned that x. You’ll see how people connect and relate to your characters and the experiences in your story, and that’s such a rewarding feeling.
Slow Down
Don’t rush the process. We all get writer’s block, so take your time to really immerse yourself in your story. I take a lot of inspiration from films—I pretend I’m the character and act out my story, which helps a lot. Sometimes we tend to rush, but when you take your time, the story flows better with details, perspectives, and dialogue.
Your Plot Structure
When I use a diagram of the typical plot structure, the app helps me visually storyboard everything. I think about my panel frames and what could best convey the emotion or plot point to immerse the reader in my story. I want the reader to feel like they are the character or can relate to what the character is going through.
Control Your Dialogue
Think about the depth and dimensions of the panel—how close or far images and characters are. Consider negative space and the visual intentions of your characters. With dialogue, it can be tricky. I’m still learning this too, but I think about how much or how little the characters should speak. Think about your narrative voice, the character’s inner monologue, and character-to-character dialogue, and when to use all three throughout your story.
Visuals Empower Your Narrative
I’ve never used an app like this before. I’m not an artist by any means so this app allows me to tell my story visually. It has also helped me become more confident in my storytelling ability. It’s even made me want to write more in a narrative style. I love comics, though, and the visuals will always be my favorite part of any story.
Proofreading
I like to re-read my stories over and over before publishing. I sometimes still miss small mistakes, but I try to ensure everything is perfect for me before I share it. I also like to have other creators review and proofread my work before releasing it. Shout out to KimuraKen and RavenCaw for being my proofreaders and supporters for the stories I’ve shared with them!
One last thing!
